What we look for, in every report
19 sections, the same ones every time, on every package. There is no "premium" tier with extra checks: what we can do, we do for everyone.
Today, for a vehicle registered in Italy, 6 of the 19 sections have at least one live source; for the other 13 there is not yet a source we can query, and the report marks them “No data” — which means we could not check, not that the vehicle is clean.

The difference
No subscription. No auto-renewal.
In this category the advertised price is almost never the price you end up paying. That is precisely why we built our pricing the other way round.
The pattern across the industry
- 1
A report for one to three euros, presented as a trial.
- 2
The renewal consent is pre-ticked, at the bottom of the page, in small type.
- 3
A few days later a recurring monthly charge starts.
- 4
Cancelling means a form or an email, inside a narrow window nobody remembers.
How it works here
You pay the amount on screen, once.
You get your report straight away: it opens in your browser and downloads as a PDF.
We do not keep your payment method on file for future charges — there is no renewal switch to turn off.
There is nothing to cancel, because there is nothing recurring.
For the record
This is not an abstract worry. CarJudge converts a EUR 2.90 trial into a monthly charge, and the Italian competition authority (AGCM) opened proceeding PS12406 against CARFAX Italia over exactly this kind of practice. Both are matters of public record. They are also the reason the word subscription appears on this page only to tell you there isn't one.
Comparison
vincode, a subscription service, and a PRA extract
Three different ways of answering the question "what is this car hiding". They do different jobs and cost different money, and it is worth knowing which one you need.
| Criterion | vincode | Subscription service | PRA extract |
|---|---|---|---|
| Price | From €9.99, paid once | A EUR 1–3 trial, then a monthly fee | Roughly EUR 6–12 per extract |
| Recurring charges | None | Yes, auto-renewing until cancelled | None |
| What it contains | 19 sections: mileage, damage, theft, liens, owners, inspections, recalls, commercial use and more | Varies, and often undisclosed before payment | Italian register data only: ownership, mortgages, administrative holds |
| Geographic coverage | Italy and the main EU markets, with real coverage disclosed before you pay | Varies, rarely stated per vehicle | Vehicles registered in Italy only |
| Delivery time | A few minutes, online and as a PDF | A few minutes | Immediate, as a PDF |
| What you have to remember afterwards | Nothing | Cancel inside the stated window | Nothing |
A PRA extract is an official document and for Italian register data there is no substitute: if you need something that carries legal weight, that is the route. It does not do our job, though. It does not cross-check foreign sources, it does not reconstruct a mileage history, and it will not tell you the car spent three years as a rental in Germany.
Transparency
How much the report contains depends on the car, not on the package
Not every section fills for every vehicle. A hatchback first registered in Bari in 2006 that never left the province leaves far fewer digital traces than a 2019 German saloon sold twice abroad. That is a limit of the sources, not a commercial decision.
When a section comes back empty we still show it, marked "No data". We do not hide it and we do not pad it with generic sentences to make the report look longer. "No data" means we could not check — not that the vehicle is clean. Those are completely different claims, and conflating them is the most expensive lie this industry tells.
Before you pay you can enter the VIN and see, free, which sections we are actually able to fill for that specific car. If coverage is thin, you find out before you spend anything.
Payments
Questions about paying
Does buying sign me up to anything?
No. There is no recurring product on our price list and we do not store your payment method for later charges. There is no box to untick and no cancellation to diarise.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payment is handled by Stripe: your card details never pass through our servers and we never see them.
Can I get a proper invoice?
Yes. At checkout you can enter your company name, VAT number and either a recipient code or a PEC address, and the electronic invoice is issued and filed with the Italian Interchange System. If you buy as a consumer you still get a receipt by email immediately after payment.
Can I get a refund?
A report is digital content delivered immediately, so at checkout you expressly waive the statutory right of withdrawal, as EU consumer law allows. In practice: if the report comes back substantially empty, if we generate it against the wrong VIN, or if something simply did not work, write to us and we refund. We will not ask you to prove anything.
How long can I reopen the report?
The PDF you download is yours, with no expiry date. The link to the online report — the one on the confirmation page and in the email — stays valid for 30 days.
Which currency do I pay in?
Euros. If your card is denominated in another currency, your bank applies the conversion on its own terms, not ours.
Got a VIN to check?
See for free what we can find on that vehicle, then decide whether it is worth the money.
