The check
What you need to start a check, how long it takes and what you can do with the report.
What is a VIN and where do I find it?
The VIN is the 17-character code that identifies one individual vehicle for its entire life. You will find it in field E of the registration document, in the lower driver's-side corner of the windscreen, on the label on the driver's door pillar, and stamped into the bodyshell. If the number on the windscreen does not match the registration document, do not buy that car.
Can I run the check with just the registration plate?
Partly. A plate is a pointer into a national register, and getting from there to a VIN requires authorised access to that register, under rules that differ country by country. Where we cannot do it we tell you on the search page, before you pay, rather than taking your money and failing afterwards.
How long does the report take?
Queries go out in parallel and each source has a maximum response time. In the large majority of cases the report is ready in a few minutes. If one source misses its deadline, that section closes as "No data" rather than holding up everything else.
Can I see anything before paying?
Yes, and we recommend it to everyone. Enter the VIN and the free preview shows you the vehicle identity decoded from the number, plus the list of sections we can genuinely fill for that specific car. If coverage is thin, you learn that before spending.
Does the report expire? Can I download it again?
The PDF you download is yours, with no expiry date. The link to the online report — the one on the confirmation page and in the email — stays valid for a limited time, written next to the link itself. But the report is a snapshot of the moment it was generated: if the purchase slips by six months, run the check again.

The data
Where the information comes from, what an empty section means and how the score is read.
Where does the data come from?
From national vehicle registers, lien and encumbrance registers, roadworthiness test authorities, stolen vehicle databases, insurers and assessors, manufacturers for recalls, and commercial archives of auctions and classifieds. We do not publish a database count because it is the easiest metric in this industry to inflate: we publish the kinds of source and their limits.
Does it work for cars registered abroad?
Yes, and that is often when it matters most: on an imported car you have far fewer ways to verify anything yourself. The depth varies a lot by country, though. Some markets have excellent inspection histories, others have almost nothing commercially accessible.
What does "No data" mean?
It means we were unable to check — not that the vehicle is clean. Those are completely different claims, and conflating them is the most expensive flaw in this industry. That is why "No data" has its own colour, its own icon and its own label, and looks nothing like "No problems found".
How is the 0–100 score calculated?
It starts at 100 and every problem found removes a fixed number of points: 60 for a vehicle reported stolen, 40 for a branded title, 35 for a rolled-back odometer, 30 for a lien that blocks a sale, and so on. Every deduction applied is listed in the report with its value. There is no hidden model.
Why does my report say "Unrated"?
Because there was not enough data to give an honest number. That happens when fewer than 40% of sections filled, or when fewer than two of the five load-bearing sections contain real data. We would rather tell you we do not know than hand you a 92 built on three facts.
What if the report comes back nearly empty?
It can happen, particularly with older vehicles that never left Italy. That is exactly why the free preview shows coverage before payment. If a report arrives substantially empty despite the preview saying otherwise, write to us: we refund it.
I found something that is wrong. What now?
Tell us, quoting the VIN and the section concerned. We check with the source, correct it where the error is ours, and tell you plainly when the error is upstream in the originating register — because in that case the correction has to be requested there, and we will explain how.

Payments
Subscriptions, accepted methods, invoices, refunds and credits.
Is there a subscription?
No, and that is not a clever wording: there is no recurring product on our price list at all. You pay once, you get the report, there is nothing to cancel. In a category where a EUR 2.90 trial becoming a monthly fee is the norm, this is our main difference.
Which payment methods do you accept?
Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay and Google Pay. Payment runs through Stripe: card details never pass through our servers.
Can I get an invoice?
Yes. At checkout you can enter your company name, VAT number and a recipient code or PEC address, and the electronic invoice is filed with the Italian Interchange System. Consumers receive a receipt by email immediately after payment.
Can I get a refund?
A report is digital content delivered immediately, so at purchase you expressly waive the statutory right of withdrawal. In practice we refund when a report is substantially empty, when we generate it against the wrong VIN, or when something did not work. Just write to us.
Do unused credits expire?
Today the price list holds a single product, the one-off report: you pay for one report and receive it immediately, so there are no credits to hold back and nothing that could expire.
4 questions
Privacy and legal
Personal data in the report, what we do with the VIN you enter and what the document is worth.
Does the report contain the owner's personal data?
No. The report describes the vehicle, not people. Where a source exposes data attributable to an individual, that data does not enter the report: you will see how many changes of keeper there were and what type of keeper — private, company, rental firm — but never a name or an address.
What do you do with the VIN I enter?
We use it to generate your report and store it alongside the report, so you can reopen it from the link we sent you. We do not sell searches, we do not pass them to dealers, and we do not use them to profile the car you are considering.
Does the report have legal standing?
No. It is an informational document collecting what the sources say about that VIN at a point in time. For a document that carries legal weight on Italian register data you need a PRA extract or certificate. The report is for deciding and negotiating, not for filing in proceedings.
I am the owner and I do not want my car's data to be searchable.
The data comes from the originating sources, not from us: we cannot remove a hold or a claim from a public register. We can act on what we process directly, and point you at the source to approach for the rest. Write to us and we will show you the right route.
Question not answered here?
Write to us. We reply within one working day, and anything about a payment or an undelivered report goes to the front of the queue.
